Princeton Art Guild* announces The 2008 Pennington Folk Festival

Friday, June 6 & Saturday, June 7, 2008

Free to the Public
Bring your lawn chair, spend the evening. Food concessions available.
 

Friday night: Main Stage – Butler Lawn

6 p.m. — The Juggernaut Jug Band

7 p.m. – Gypsy Wind (newgrass swing)

8 p.m. – Rain Dogs (Kansas City blues)

9 p.m. – Alonzo Pennington

Saturday: Main Stage – Butler Lawn

3 p.m. – final round of the talent contest

4 p.m. – The Boys From Kentucky (traditional bluegrass)

5 p.m. - Patriotic Program featuring the Community Choir

6 p.m. – Meagan Taylor, the great niece of Chet Atkins
               Jason Coleman, the grandson of Floyd Cramer

7 p.m. – The Moron Brothers (hilarious duo)

8 p.m. – Grammy and Academy award nominated musician, Thom Bresh

9 p.m. – the all-star jam led by Alonzo Pennington

The event is held on The Butler Lawn in downtown Princeton, Ky. with easy access off I-24
or The Western Kentucky Parkway.

Princeton Art Guild announces
The 2008 Pennington Festival Back Stage Square Dance Thursday, June 5, 2008 at 6 p.m.

Beginning at 6 p.m. join the festival committee as we kick off the 11th annual festival with the 1st annual square dance.

Festival namesake Eddie Pennington will lead the band of musicians and Dr. Susan McElroy Marcus of Cincinnati will serve as caller. If you can walk and count, you can square dance.

Bring a lawn chair, pack a picnic, and come join us for a great evening of music and dancing.

This is the time to get up close and personal with one of the greatest guitarists in the country, Eddie Pennington, who has been recognized across the country and throughout the world as the greatest living thumbpicking guitarist. Come see Eddie’s musical talents as he not only picks, but fiddles along with the best of them.

This is a precursor event to the Pennington Folk Festival held Friday, June 6, and Saturday, June 7, 2008.

The festival is made possible in part by Princeton Art Guild*, The Morgan Foundation, The Kentucky Arts Council, The Southern Arts Federation/National Endowment for the Arts, AT&T, Farmers Bank & Trust, Eddie Pennington and local sponsors.

The Pennington Folk Festival Talent Contest

Preliminary rounds, Saturday, June 7, at 10 a.m.  with Final round, Saturday, June 7, 2008, at 3 p.m.

Sign-up begins at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Butler Auditorium. A $10 entry fee will be charged. All proceeds going to the Caldwell County Band Boosters.

The contest rounds begin 10 a.m. Open entries are available in the following categories:

*Vocal Solo (pop, country, traditional, Gospel)

*Vocal group (pop, country, traditional, Gospel)

Bluegrass and Traditional Instruments:

Guitar

Fiddle

Miscellaneous

(dobro, stand-up bass, banjo, accordion, brass, winds, harmonica, etc.

Any category with five or more entries will form a separate category)

*No canned music. A panel of judges will adjudicate the event. No public commentary will be given. First round will feature one selection from each contestant and will be held in the Butler Auditorium. Final round will feature category winners each with a different selection vying for top three cash prizes. That’s right! Different round, different song. Performances will take place on festival main stage.

3rd place-$50, 2nd place-$100, 1st place-$200

The event is held in Butler Auditorium and on The Butler Lawn in downtown Princeton, Ky. with easy access off I-24 or The Western Kentucky Parkway.

This is an event of the Pennington Festival held June 5, 6 & 7, 2008. This is the first year of partnering with the Caldwell County Band Boosters to raise money to support music education in local schools.
