Photos like Mr. Tangen's remind us how Merle Travis's influence
has spread far from his Kentucky home and can now be found almost anywhere a
good "box picker" lives!
From EP:
Hi Terje:
It is nice to hear from you and see the nice pictures of you with Thom and Chet.
We all sure miss Chet a lot. I was with Thom at Steve Kaufman's camp this
summer and also at the CAAS. I hope to meet you sometime. EP

Here's a couple of photos from a
Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, fan--Paul Moore. Paul took these pics of EP at the
National Thumbpickers Hall of Fame induction ceremonies.
These photos were sent to us by one of Eddie's Masters of
the Steel String Guitar Tour friends--Harmonica Buzz. In a recent email, Buzz
says Eddie is "one of his favorite people on the planet." Check out the blues
harmonica of our friend Mr. Buzz at his
website.
Eddie and Alonzo helped Buzz with some recordings on his first CD,
Long Way to
Memphis. These photos are from a performance at the Rex Theater at
Galax, Virginia. Thanks, Buzz!

Even though he doesn't play guitar, Ray
Stevens has fond memories of visits some famous pickers made to his father's
home many years ago. He also has some great photos of these guys. Thanks for
sending them to us, Ray!

I knew Jewell Stevens real well. He used to talk on CB
radio and his
handle was Paperdoll. He had a brother that was about Merle's age and I
heard him on tape one time back in the 70's after he had died and he played
real good. His name was Pip Stevens. He and Ed Wisdom wrote the
RockABye Rag, only they called it the Stomp. --EP
